Advance the profession of Asset Management through leadership in education, standards, compliance, and certifications.

A Message From Our President

The week of April 17 – 21 is National Volunteer Week. If you have been a member for years, months, or just days then your membership has been impacted by those who volunteer for NPMA. You will find them serving within chapters, regions, and as executive board members. They are your instructors for certification review and educational classes. They participate on special committees. They manage the NPMA Foundation which in turn directly supports our members. Volunteers are everywhere within the NPMA.

Over 50 years ago the founders of NPMA instilled into the fabric of this organization a structure that recruited members to volunteer without which there would be no NPMA. The spirit of volunteering is who we are. It is why NPMA has been so successful in very good years and most importantly survived in years that were difficult. Volunteering has evolved as time had gone along but is as important today as it was over 50 years ago.

I truly appreciate and thank all of you that support NPMA through your time, talents, and service - volunteering.

                   Central Region Highlights

Joe Spoto, North Texas Chapter

Joe Spoto has gone above and beyond during his first term as the North Texas Chapter President. He has established and implemented a very long list of great things within the chapter, here are just a few highlights:

He established expectations and set goals for the North Texas Chapter in 2023, following the 2022 November elections. He personally contacted over 125-chapter members to thank them for being members, requested to know their current needs, and inquired about their interest in serving on a committee, and presenting as a speaker at monthly meetings and/or NES. Joe has also encouraged his chapter members to write an article for the NPMA magazine, obtain the next level of certification, and volunteer at upcoming awareness and/or charitable events.

Joe established and continues to participate in committee meetings to create, drive, and gather approval for chapter ideas. He is relentless with advertising and promoting NPMA and his chapter. Joe established a Chapter Membership engagement initiative to continue the personal contact with all members. He also created a “Token of Appreciation” gift for all members and new members, designed and distributed a ‘Mini-Guide’ Welcome Packet with a little history on the North Texas chapter, orientation guidance on the website, words of encouragement and with a personal touch from committee members.

Joe has the positive energy, personality, drive, and leadership of not just a great asset manager, but as an NPMA member and Chapter President.

 Iris Thompson, Alamo Chapter

Iris is a charter member of the Alamo Chapter in San Antonio, TX. Over the past 19 years with the Alamo Chapter, she has held several positions. Iris is the current Chapter President and a Regional Director. She has also coordinated several chapter training sessions and networking events.

The Alamo Chapter is considered a small chapter, and in effort to promote growth and engage the membership, Iris has set up face-to-face activities at a variety of venues which enables the members to meet and expand their professional network. The latest event was a friendly pickleball match with Contract Property versus Hospital Property.

Iris has been a presenter at NPMA’s National Educational Seminar and the Regional Educational Seminars presenting topics such as Contractor Self-Assessment, Physical Inventory, and Subcontractor Control. She also promotes NPMA on the job at the corporate level by scheduling presenters to educate Management and newly hired property professionals. Iris also provides mentoring to those new to the property field.

Iris is a CF and has a proven record of dedication to the Alamo Chapter and NPMA!

Gloria Samora, Johnson Space Center Chapter

Gloria is a prime example of a model NPMA member and the definition of selfless. She is loyal to the organization and encourages her members and peers to get certified and participate in NPMA activities and within the NPMA organization. Special guest participation, trainings, and NPMA certifications would not be an option for her members if it wasn’t for Gloria’s active leadership. She is wiling to help a fellow NPMA member, no matter if they are in her chapter or not. There are no boundaries when it comes to her workmanship and dedication. She does beyond her concerns and sympathies with others by listening, her happiness comes from other’s successes.
