NPMA invites community members to share their expertise and knowledge during the NPMA 2017 National Education Seminar (NES), July 31 - August 3, 2017, in Phoenix, Arizona. The final day to apply is Friday, January 27. View full presentation information and requirements and submit your session proposal to participate as a presenter at the 2017 NES. If you would like to submit multiple proposals, an individual submission is required for each.

In fleet management, what is one thing you would like to see developed or improved?
I think Fleet Management would be improved immensely if we had the ability to easily collect and use Fleet data to make Fleet optimization decisions. Currently, we have the data, but it doesn’t necessarily sit in one place nor is it easy to use.

What advice would you give someone new to fleet management?
My advice for anyone new to Fleet Management is to be ready for some interesting changes to our business. I think this is an exciting time to be in Fleet Management. “Mobility” Transportation is the new buzz word and is fundamentally altering the way we look at transportation. The Transportation industry is changing and presenting the Fleet Manager with some exciting tools to transform our business. Telematics, car sharing, keyless entry, driver demographics, autonomous and electric vehicles, and Uber are all technologies and trends that private industry is well into utilizing. Our challenge is to figure out how to leverage these technologies within our respective Fleet Management worlds.

If you could design your dream fleet vehicle, what would it be like?
If I could design my “dream” fleet, it wouldn’t be a fleet but a “service”, particularly for those individuals that only need transportation from one destination to another. If we could leverage today’s transportation technology (e.g. Car Sharing, Uber/Lyft, autonomous vehicles) to provide a service instead of a vehicle, I believe it would transform the way we look at Transportation.

Certification Renewal Reminder

All property certifications are valid for five years, during which time the certified person must participate in the required professional activities listed below. The criteria is also listed on the NPMA website.

  1. Participated as an instructor or speaker in a property management program, training, or meeting.
  2. Attended two (2) conferences, seminars, training, or educational functions where technical, administrative, or managerial applications on property management were discussed or demonstrated. This includes events sponsored by NPMA chapters.
  3. Attained one hundred-twenty (120) Continuing Education Units (CEUs) from a university, college, government, industry, or professional organization (e.g. NPMA, NCMA, NMA, AMA, DAU, APICS) for courses/seminars related to property management. NOTE: 1 hour of instruction is equal to 1 CEU. (May be CEUS earned by attendance at educational events reflected in criteria No. 2 above)
  4. Completed five (5) property related webinars or on-line training sessions over past 5 years.
  5. Authored or co-authored a presentation, paper, thesis, or article about property administration or property management either published or electronic.
  6. Actively participated in a property council or a consensus-based standards association.
  7. Served as an Officer or a Committee Member of a property association at the Chapter, Regional, National, or international level.
  8. Worked in or supervised property-related position(s) during the past five years.

To renew, members need to submit a complete Certification Renewal Application and ALL support documentation required. Submissions should be submitted online in one PDF to Incomplete renewal submissions will delay the renewal process as applications cannot be approved without the proper documentation. While some members may receive an email notification reminding them that their certification is about to expire, ultimately it is the member’s responsibility to view their NPMA profile and check their certification’s expiration date. It is advisable that members review their profile regularly and renew early to ensure that applications are not submitted late.

Late renewals are subject to late fees or retest. Certification renewal applications can be submitted up to 120 days after the certification expiration date as long as the individual has been an NPMA member for the last 12 months. If the application is received between 30 and 120 days after the expiration date, a $100 late fee will be imposed. Applications received more than 120 days after the required renewal date will be rejected and the member will be required to retest at the highest level previously obtained or the member will drop to the level below the highest level they did not renew.

Late renewals or failure to meet all of the renewal requirements may be appealed to the certification CGB Appeals/Disciplinary Committee.
