Get to Know Your Candidate for Chair of the Certification Governing Board

Frank Gonzalez, CPPM
Austin Chapter

Statement of Experience:
I have over 40 years of experience working in Materials Management and Logistics.

I served 10 years in the USAF, 9 years active and 1 year in the reserves, in the Base Supply and Ammunition Supply career fields.

I have worked for Texas State University for 31 years in the Property/Asset Management Offices. We are the 5th largest University in the State with 37, 158 students.

I have an Associate of Applied Science Degree (AAS) in Logistics Management from the Community College of the Air Force, an Associate of Science (AS) Degree in Business Management from the Burlington County College of New Jersey, and a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Finance from the University of Texas at Austin.

I have been a member of NPMA since 1996, this is my 20 year anniversary. I have been a CPPM since 1997. I was the first Texas “State Agency Employee” to achieve the NPMA “CPPM” certification.

I am a member of the NPMA Austin, Texas Chapter. I have been chapter Vice-President, President, National Delegate and Chairs of various committees over the years.

I was the NPMA Central Region Treasurer from 2008 -2012.

I was an NPMA paid Instructor from 2009-2013 teaching the “Central Receiving and Warehousing” course.

I have been a member of the Certification Governing Board since 2010. I was the CGB Chair from 2012 to 2014 elected by the CGB Board members. I recently helped rewrite the CPPA “University and College” certification supplement and also helped review the rewriting of the CPPA “State Agency” certification supplement. I am currently reviewing test questions for the new CPPA exam.

Mission and Goals:
My Goals for the CGB; if I am elected to the Chair position, is to make sure that we meet all of the new NCCA standards in order to resubmit the application to the NCCA for the CPPS certification accreditation. I am sure that we will get this accreditation this time under my watch. Then I want to continue to review and update certification materials and tests to make sure they continue to be relevant for current property management standards. I will also try to recruit new and more diverse Board members that are willing to put in the time and effort working to make the CGB more viable, reliable and sustainable as it continues to manage, update and protect the accredited certifications for the NPMA.

General Session: Serve to Be Great: Leadership Lessons from a Prison, a Monastery and a Boardroom

In this inspiring program, Matt Tenney, President, Wanna Save the World, Inc., introduces the power of "servant leadership" through his story of spending five-plus years confined to military prison for arranging an unauthorized delivery of government funds, learning to be happy with nothing, living like a monk for over three years, discovering the power of a life devoted to serving others, and co-founding and leading two non-profits. Matt will show you how to improve your capacity for servant leadership, and how that shift results in greater success as a leader as well as greater happiness.

We look forward to seeing everyone in Nashville next week!
