CPPA and CPPM Renewal Requirements

We commend you for your commitment to excellence in the property management profession. Your dedication is evident by your continued efforts to expand your knowledge base, to further your professional development and growth, and to encourage and motivate others to achieve excellence in the profession.

Your CPPA and/or CPPM credentials are valid for five (5) years, during which time you must participate in the required professional activities listed below. In order to revalidate your certification for an additional five years, you must submit a completed Certification Continuance Application and $75.00 processing fee to the NPMA National Office.  CPPAs and CPPMs may be notified via e-mail when the certification renewal is due, however, it is the member's responsibility to keep up with the expiration dates.  We suggest that you create a file for maintaining records of your renewal activities, since the NPMA office does not store such a file.

Required professional activities:

A. Have no more than a (3-month) lapse in certification.

B. Complete a Certification Continuance Application indicating that you have participated in any three (3) of the following nine (9) activities over the 5-year period prior the expiration date:

1. Actively participate in a Property Management training program or seminar as a speaker or planner.

2. Attend two (2) NPMA seminars at the Chapter, Regional, and/or National levels. Other conferences where technical, administrative, and/or managerial applications on Property Management are discussed or demonstrated also fulfill this requirement. Webinars are not accepted.

3. Obtain fifteen (15) credits or Continuing Education Units (CEUs) from a university, college, government, industry, or professional organization (e.g., NPMA, NCMA, NMA, AMA) for courses/seminars related to Property Management.

4. Author and have published at least one (1) paper, thesis, or article on Property Management. Participate in community- or state-oriented Property Management activities.

5. Attend at least four (4) Chapter meetings per year.

6. Serve as a Chapter, Regional, or National Officer.

7. Serve as a committee member at the Chapter, Regional, or National level.

8. Serve as an exam writer, reviewer and/or test grader for the NPMA Certification Program.

9. Be involved in Property Management activities through employment.

What if I have not participated in the required professional activities?
If you did not participate in three of the above activities over the last five years, you must successfully complete the Certification Continuance Examination(s). The CPPA examinations consist of two 50 multiple-choice questions covering the current intermediate property manual and supplement that correspond with the applicant's study curriculum. The CPPM examination is a situational judgment examination. There is a sample of the situational judgment examination under Testing Information, Requirements and Schedule. Use the Certification Continuance Application to order the examinations.
