Lifetime Certificate Requirements

We commend you for your commitment to excellence in the property management profession. Your dedication is evident by your continued efforts to expand your knowledge base; to further your professional development and growth; as well as to encourage and motivate others to achieve excellence in the profession.

Who is eligible to apply for the Lifetime Certificate?

  • NPMA members who have retired from active employment in property management and who have achieved the CPPA and/or CPPM Certificate(s).

In order to obtain the Lifetime certificates you must submit a completed application and the $25.00 processing fee to NPMA National Office. As a professional who was involved in property management, you will have no difficulty obtaining the Lifetime Certificate.

Required professional activities:

A. Be retired from active employment in property management.

B. Be an NPMA member in good standing (your membership dues must be paid).

C. Have no more than a one-year (12 months) lapse in membership.

D. Complete a Certification Continuance Application indicating that you have participated in any three (3) of the following nine (9) activities over the previous five (5) year period.

1. Actively participate in Property Management Training Programs and Seminars as a speaker or planner.

2. Attend two (2) NPMA seminars at the Chapter, Regional, and/or National levels. Other conferences where technical, administrative, and/or managerial applications on Property Management are discussed or demonstrated may also fulfill this requirement.

3. Obtain fifteen (15) credits or Continuing Education Units (CEU's) from a University, College, government, industry, or a professional organization (i.e. NPMA, NCMA, NMA, AMA) for courses/seminars related to Property Management.

4. Author and have published at least one (1) papers, thesis, or articles on Property Management. Participate in community or state oriented Property Management activities.

5. Attend at least four (4) or more Chapter meetings per year.

6. Serve as a Chapter, Regional, or National Officer.

7. Serve as a committee member at the Chapter, Regional or National level.

8.  Serve as an exam writer, reviewer and/or test grader for the NPMA Certification Program.

9. Was involved in Property Management activities through employment.

What if I have not participated in the required professional activities?

If you exceed a one-year lapse in membership or did not participate in three of the above activities over the last five years, you must successfully complete the Certification Continuance Examination. This examination consists of 50 multiple-choice questions that cover the current property manual that corresponds with the applicant's study curriculum. Use the Certification Continuance Application to order this examination.
