Cross-Pollination of Ideas and Growth Opportunities Anticipated with Collaborative Agreement between NAFA and NPMA


(PRINCETON, NJ, March 8, 2016) – When NAFA Fleet Management Association entered into a cooperative agreement with the National Property Management Association (NPMA) in mid-February, both associations affirmed that the sharing of professional and technical education would provide their members a unique dynamic that both memberships would benefit and further strengthen the voice of fleet.


“This is certainly a ‘win-win’ for both our organizations,” said NPMA National President Marcia D. Whitson, CPPM, CF. “I very much look forward to working with (NAFA)… this collaborative agreement will positively affect the fleet management community as a whole.”  The NPMA is very pleased to offer the Federal Fleet Community a certification program which specifically meets their needs.  The NPMA Property Management Certification Program has been in existence for over 40 years and continues to strive for excellence to provide Asset and Property Managers a high-quality education and Certification program.  NPMA is currently seeking accreditation through NCCA for their Property Management Certification Program.  For more information on the NPMA Federal Fleet Certification Program, visit


"Our associations occupy separate and unique places on the fleet spectrum – with NPMA focusing its advocacy toward federal fleets – and NAFA being wholly dedicated to the fleet management profession in all its industry diversity," said NAFA Chief Executive Officer Phillip E. Russo, CAE. "By recognizing and encouraging each other’s valuable education and certification opportunities, the members of both NPMA and NAFA will benefit – and thereby, further fortify the fleet management profession.”


NAFA has been offering the highest quality fleet management education for close to 60 years. Known as the industry standard is NAFA’s Certified Automotive Fleet Manager program, which serves as the foundation to NAFA’s strong education platform. The three-decade old program has its roots in Wharton Business School, but now resides fully within the association and its dedicated committees. 


“Our education and certification programs are created for fleet managers, by fleet managers,” said Russo. “The CAFM® program is continuously updated and kept to the highest quality of current fleet knowledge. The exchange of information among our education committees, and for that matter, information exchange within our NAFA membership, are key to staying at the forefront of today’s fleet concerns and fleet knowledge.”


NPMA and NAFA will recognize each other’s educational programs and certification credentialing, providing a new mode for gaining professional re-certification credit. The agreement will extend, to each association, meeting registrations at member discount rates, significant presence at each other's conferences (such as NAFA's Institute & Expo in Austin, Texas, April 19-22), and mutual recognition through websites and other digital platforms, and other positive benefits. NAFA also welcomes the opportunity that NPMA members may join so that they can fully participate in a dedicated fleet community, if that is what they so need. 


"This arrangement will also open channels of communication between the leadership of NAFA and NPMA," Russo added. "This collaborative intent and sense of purpose will further support NAFA's ability to represent and support our membership. This is crucial for NAFA's representation in areas of legislative and regulatory advocacy. I am confident that the membership of both associations will recognize positive results from this relationship."

About NPMA’s National Education Seminar (NES)


The 2016 NES takes place August 29-September 1 at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville, TN.  The event program will offer over 100 educational workshops for the Asset Manager and Fleet Manager.   In addition, the Master Mind sessions will allow attendees to meet in small group sessions with Subject Matter Experts to ask specific questions and receive knowledgeable answers and assistance.  NAFA members may attend this event at the NPMA membership rate.  Prior to the conference certification classes will be held to allow candidates to take the Certified Federal Fleet Specialist (CFFS) and Certified Federal Fleet Administrator (CFFA) exams.  NAFA will also be participating in this event.
