NPMA Foundation Update

The Foundation has been busy with transition activities. Files have smoothly transitioned. A big thanks to Raam Vichare and Wes Carter for making it so smooth!

The Foundation Team is set and I’d like to introduce you to the 2017-2018 team:

Pat Jacklets, CPPM, CF, Foundation Administrator
Cheri Cross, CPPM, CF, Administrator Assistant
Carolynn Bundy, CPPM, CF, Western Region Foundation Representative
Gloria Samora, CPPM, Central Region Foundation Representative
Karen Vaughn, CPPM, Eastern Region Foundation Representative

We held our first meeting in December and came up with some great ideas for fundraising in 2017. Stay tuned for more information. The Foundation raised $20,973 at NES last August and hope to increase it in 2017.

We have also been busy working on revamping the Foundation Webpage and updating the Grant application. You will see that change shortly.

Looking forward to working with all. Happy New Year!

Respectfully Submitted.

Pat Jacklets
Foundation Administrator

Fleet Professional Interview of the Week

Connie Aaron, CFFS
GSA, Office of Government-wide Policy

In fleet management, what is one thing you would like to see developed or improved?
For the Federal Fleet, I would like for Agency Fleet Managers to have more control over their agency budgets to have the ability to plan for timely vehicle replacements.

What advice would you give someone new to fleet management?
If you are new to fleet management, spend some time at the field level and really get to know your customers. There are so many missions in the Federal government and you really need to know what the vehicle is being used for to fully understand what will meet your customer's needs. Also, I have always joked that you really don't know fleet until you have been outside in the rain putting on license plates on new vehicles for hours.

How did you become interested in fleet management?
I wasn't really interested in fleet management when I applied for my first job out of college. The hiring manager saw that I had worked for AAA one summer helping customers map out their vacations. She gave my resume to the Fleet Manager simply because I had "worked" in the automotive field one summer. I came in for a day of interviews and was hired. I've spent the last 25 years in fleet management and really enjoy what I do every day! I've met the best group of folks to work with over the years in the field and at the Headquarters level in fleet management.

Fleet Management Awareness Month is Here!

You’re invited to participate in the many activities planned for Fleet Management Awareness Month. The following activities are planned for this week:

FREE Webinar Today (1/4 at 2PM EDT)
Managing Direct and Indirect Fleet Costs

Session Description: Executive agencies are required to submit cost data on motor vehicle operations as part of their annual submissions to GSA using FAST; however, agencies have been inconsistent in their approaches to calculating and reporting these costs. This session will look at the requirements of FMR B-38: Indirect Costs of Motor Vehicle Fleet Operations, as well as fleet management industry best practices in activity based costing. Presenters will go step-by-step through examples of various fleet costs.

Learning Objectives: Attendees will be able to apply the concepts of activity-based costing to their fleets as a method of identifying and controlling costs, and will be able to more accurately report agency fleet costs in FAST.
