In addition to being a process, receiving is the location where incoming property enters the facility. When items enter the facility, they are handled by receiving personnel who document their receipt, determine
if any discrepancies exist, and tag them (if appropriate) for identification purposes. During the receiving process, documentation is created to establish custody and accountability. This documentation also provides information concerning the receipt to the
purchasing, accounts payable, property management, inventory management, transportation/delivery, and ordering functions. It is for this reason that this course would benefit personnel from any and all of these departments.
